RAM 1500: Cars.com 2020 Luxury Car of the Year and MotorTrend 2019 Truck of the Year.

Cars.com has named the Ram 1500 its 2020 Luxury Car of the Year. This is the first time a truck has won the Luxury Car of the Year award from Cars.com. "This award validates Ram's unrelenting efforts to deliver more comfort, refinement and value to our customers," said Reid Bigland, Head of Ram Brand. In 2019, comparing trucks in the 1/2-ton segment, MotorTrend tested and rated for design, engineering, perofrmance, efficiency, safety and value. Their conclusion: "Ram 1500 hits the bull's-eye. No pickup in the segment better balances capability, efficiency, value, and quality. The Ram 1500 retains its old-school appeal while being refreshingly modern in style and substance. It's refined and sophisticated without surrendering its dirty-fingernails roots. For that, the Ram is our 2019 Truck of the Year."

2019 Ram 1500 v. 2019 Ram 1500 Classic – What are the differences?

The easiest way to tell whether you’re looking at a 2019 Classic or All-New 2019 Ram 1500 is the front grille. The Classic retains the traditional Ram cross-hair grille. The All-new, redesigned 2019 Ram 1500 has six new grille designs, depending on your choice of trim level, but none have the old cross-hair design. The All-New 2019 Ram 1500 body is lighter, longer and wider with a more aerodynamic design and the Rambox is raised by 1.5 inches as well.

It's really a personal choice based much on your desire for creature comforts including additional space, superior interior design, and a truly luxurious interior with an abundance of technology. Some truck consumers will feel the Classic Ram suits their wants and needs and will gravitate toward the lower price tag. Others will be satisfied with nothing less than the luxurious next generation, with it’s 12-inch touch screen (in higher trims) and optional panoramic sun roof.

If you’re looking for a regular cab, then the Classic will be your choice. The Classic will still offer three cab styles: Regular, Quad and Crew along with the traditional 5’7”, 6’4” and 8’ bed lengths. The 5th-gen 2019 Ram 1500 is not offered in a regular cab configuration and is available in 5’7” and 6’4” bed lengths.

The 2019 Ram 1500 engine choices include a 3.6-Liter V6 with eTorque, a 5.7-Liter V8 Hemi and a 5.7-Liter V8 Hemi with eTorque. The 2019 Ram 1500 Classic offers the same 3.6-Liter V6 and 5.7-Liter V8 Hemi, but without offering the new eTorque boost. Both the all-new and the Classic utilize an 8-speed Automatic Transmission.

Towing capabilities differ on these two 2019 models. The All-New 2019 Ram 1500 bursts forth with a best-in-class maximum towing capacity (when properly configured) of 12,750 pounds with its added eTorque and five-link coil suspension. The Classic model’s towing capacity tops out at 9,160 pounds, which is still plenty of towing power for the average truck buyer.

It’s a lot to take in, and both trucks are truly superb tools for both work and play. Our suggestion is to come test drive both these trucks at Larry H. Miller Dodge Ram Avondale and see for yourself if you’re more of a classic or new-age truck kind of person.
