Fuel economy rates for the brand new 2014 RAM 1500 are becoming available, and they are seriously impressive; especially in relation to the truck's competition. Largely due to the truck's overhauled 8-speed transmission, the new 1500 model will feature the most efficient V-6 and V-8 available on the road today.
The 2014 RAM 1500 will be available with two engine choices, standardly included will be the efficiency-focused 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6, and also available will be the heavy duty 5.7-liter HEMI V-8. A third engine option, the six-cylinder EcoDeisel is slated to hit dealer lots later this year, and while data is not available for that engine option just yet, the first two are.
Available in the HFE (High Fuel Economy) trim, the Pentastar v-6 is the most efficient option for truck drivers. Cranking out 305 horsepower while still achieving 18 miles per gallon and the highway and 25 in the city, this engine is truly an engineering marvel. The base model engine only drops fuel efficiency by about 1 mpg. Impressively, both models will be able to beat the Ford F-150 in terms of fuel economy by over 1 mile per gallon!
Another big upgrade for the 2014 version of the 1500 is the revamped transmission, which now features 8 speeds so it can always deliver just the right amount of power to the wheels.
