September is National Child Passenger Safety Month, and we want to make sure your kids are buckled up safe! On Saturday, September 19th we'll be holding a Car Seat Safety Check. Experts from Safe Kids Arizona and local fire and police departments will be there to ensure car seats are installed correctly, and will also be available to answer any questions. In the meantime, here's a few car seat safety tips from SafeKids.org:
- Make sure your child is in the right car seat for their age, weight and height. These items will be listed on the label found on the carseat.
- Many people don't realize that car seats have an expiration date. This information is also found on the car seat label. If it's past the date, throw it out.
- It's important to keep your child in a rear-facing car seat as long as you can. SafeKids.org recommends keeping them in a rear-facing car seat until they are around two-years-old.
- Even when your child is in a forward-facing car seat, it's important to use the top tether until they weigh around 40lbs.
