Highway driving and driving in the city differ greatly. There are certain things you have to know about driving on the highway that will help keep yourself and other drivers safe. Following these tips will have you driving like a pro on the highway in no time:

  • You should accelerate to an appropriate merge speed when entering onto the highway. It allows you to safely enter traffic.
  • You may need to change lanes or slow down to allow other vehicles to merge.
  • Avoid other drivers blind spots.
  • The right lane is usually reserved for entering and exiting the highway while the left lane is for passing. If you are not passing another car you should move out of the passing lane.
  • Avoid excessive lane changing and always use your turn signals.
  • Move over a lane when you see a disabled vehicle or police car on the shoulder, if possible.
  • It is illegal to back up on the highway, so if you miss your exit you should just take the next exit to turn around.
