Never Sacrifice Power for Convenience with the Dodge Durango
Many SUVs have had to make compromises to become more suitable for families. Many people have forgotten by now, but SUVs used to be for enthusiasts who would choose the rigid driving experience and bulky exteriors because they were tailored towards adventure. Nowadays, you can see SUVs everywhere, growing in popularity as people realize all of the benefits that come with owning one.
The Dodge Durango holds onto a lot of power that other models have sacrificed, while still giving you all of the benefits that came with the redesign of SUVs. The Durango once had a stiff and rigid feel to it, but Dodge changed its platform to give a smoother, more comfortable ride for families to enjoy. When you see a Durango on the road, it is evident that the driver appreciates power, and appreciates a vehicle that isn't modest in showing it.
Showing Off
The Durango is currently the longest and tallest SUV in its class, refusing to be redesigned to fit a more compact lifestyle. The broad front-end is eerily reminiscent of the Charger - giving you a preview of the power it provides - and the taillight bar isn't shy to let you know the Durango is in front of you. As one of the biggest vehicles in its class, it provides you all of the room needed without having to upgrade to a monstrously-sized SUV, but still manages to give you all of the room that you will need to enjoy the third-row of seats.
Diverse Interior Configurations
Being able to tailor the Durango to your needs is one of the defining characteristics. The standard option is for seven seats thanks to a bench as the middle row. If you don't fill all of the seats - or if you travel with adults or long-legged adolescents - you can opt for Captain's Chairs as the middle row for a six-passenger capacity. If neither of these options are appealing to you yet, you can order the Durango SXT that allows you to get rid of that third tow, making it a five-seater with cavernous amounts of cargo space.
If you stick with the more conventional three-row option, you still get 17 cubic feet of cargo space behind that third row; if you fold down the second row of seats, you up that cargo space to 48 cubic feet; and if you fold all your seats down, you are looking at 85 cubic feet of cargo space. As one of the largest interiors in its class, you can be sure that you will be able to fit all of your gear into the Durango.
No Compromises with Convenience for Power
Dodge wanted to try to overwhelm you with options between the interior and the engine, but they won't because you know what you want: comfort and power. You have already read how to get the most comfort, but what about power?
The Durango offers several engine options. The standard engine for the SXT, GT, and Citadel is a 3.6-Liter V6 that makes 293 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. While that would be sufficient for some models, the Durango offers that as its least powerful engine.
If you look to upgrade to the Durango R/T (or if you opt for it on the Citadel trim), you can make use of a 5.7-liter V8 engine that makes 360 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. The Durango R/T brings many sport-tuned upgrades to the steering, suspension, and design, allowing you to really show off that power. But if you think that is the top, you don't know Dodge!
Continuing to upgrade your Durango puts you at the top: the Durango SRT. The Durango SRT is for those of you who crave power, but also understand the practicality that an SUV brings to your family. The Durango SRT is powered by a 6.4-Liter V8 that can make 475 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. With these impressive numbers, you can appreciate the 4.4-second zero-to-sixty time that puts the Durango in the same league as many sports cars, but with the added bonus of being able to carry all of your gear, friends, and more!
Don't be intimidated by this though, your Durango SRT purchase includes driving lesson at the SRT Track Experience at Bondurant Racing School in Arizona so that you can be confident while you are behind the wheel.
Safety Options
While many other SUVs include driver-assisting safety features as standard, the Durango offers them in packages for you to choose from. This allows you to choose which features that you might want, only getting the ones that you will actually use.
For example, if you want some of the most popular radar-based technologies, you will have to choose the Technology Group package; or if you want something like blind-spot monitoring, you'll need to choose the Safety/Security Group Package.
Is the Durango Right for You?
That isn't something we can decide for you, but we can say that with the variety of seating configurations, an abundance of power, and a bold design, we recommend more than just a consideration if you are looking for a vehicle to travel in with your family.
