Muscle cars are starting to become popular again in the American car industry. There are some models currently on the market that boast power numbers that we have never seen. Of course, Dodge is right in the mix. The automaker is working on stepping it up a notch with a supercharged Dodge Challenger, which many believe was caught testing recently.

The new the supercharged model is rumored to use a new "Hellcat" engine. It's a 6.2-liter V-8 that can pump out 640 horsepower. In the spy photos we here at Larry H. Miller Dodge Ram Avondale were able to get our hands on, the prototype appears to be a SRT8 model but after a closer look, we noticed it was supporting brake rotors that are cross-drilled, not slotted like SRT8 models.

Also, the front end was covered in matting, meaning there could be some differences there, like new air inlets to power the potent power plant.

The Hellcat engine is said to be lighter and more compact than the Dodge Viper 8.4-liter V-10, and will probably be made with the HEMI V-8 engines that are available on all new Dodge models. It should be more than enough to rival the competition, and probably win a few head-to-head battles, too.
