The American muscle car is iconic. Even if you couldn't name a single brand or model, you know one when you see one.

When you envision a muscle car, a few things probably come to mind: big engines, rumbling exhaust, aggressive styling, and, maybe, the smell of burning tires. Born during a time when gas was cheap and open roads plentiful, the American muscle car enabled an entire generation to freely explore the open roads with speed and style.

Strength through the years

The Dodge Challenger is one of just a handful of great American muscle cars still in production today. Many classic muscle cars from yesteryear have either abandoned their muscle car status or are no longer being produced at all.

The base model of the Challenger comes with a mid-range 3.6 liter V6, which puts out 305 horsepower. From there the options jump into more powerful territory with a 5.7 liter Hemi cranking out 375 horsepower, and a 6.4 liter Hemi pushing a whopping 485 horsepower.

If that isn't enough, your Dodge dealer can tell you about the supercharged and Hellcat varieties. By comparison, the strongest engine available in a 1970 Dodge Challenger was a 6.9 liter V8 which offered 425 horsepower.

The 2016 Dodge Challenger is the perfect blend of old and new, maintaining the aggressive styling of the classic Challengers while molding it together with modern comfort, convenience, and raw power. The sound of the Challenger is unique and will send a chill down your spine the first time you stomp on the gas and are rewarded with that signature throaty growl from under the hood.

No replacement for displacement

There is a saying among the muscle car community, “there is no replacement for displacement.” This acknowledges the powerful engines which make muscle cars all that they are, and simultaneously takes a jab at the weaker engines of foreign cars. Muscle cars, like the Challenger, are the embodiment of American ingenuity and dominance in the automobile market.

Modern conveniences

Technology has come a long way since the original heyday of the American muscle cars. Things we take for granted in the 21st century, like power windows and door locks, air conditioning, power seats, and the like were not available back then. Luckily for you, all of these items and more are present and accounted for in the 2016 Dodge Challenger.
